Monthly Features

The Front Page
East Wichita News places a great deal of emphasis on showcasing interesting and important Wichitans as well as issues affecting our city. Our lead article usually features a personality profile of one of these people. Our subjects are chosen carefully for their positive stories. Our second front page article covers area news or can be an opinion piece written by a qualified local person.

Here are some examples of the people we have profiled recently:

Suzie Ahlstrand, Vice President of
the Wichita Area Chamber of Commerce

      Janet Wright, President/CEO
      of Wichita Festivals

Ron Holt, Assistant County Manager and Former President of Kansas Gas & Electric Company

Dr. Schuyler Jones, Internationally known anthropologist,
Wichita's "Indiana Jones"

Don and Elizabeth King, Don is President
of King Construction; Elizabeth is

at Wichita State University

Lily Wu, Wichita State
University Scholar

Mike Wawrzewski, Founder of

Elections and Issues
We do not profile political candidates; however, when elections and election issues are at hand, East Wichita News covers the story in a number of ways:
• Point and Counter-Point lead article with either candidates or
  issue proponents.
• In-depth reports on issues from both sides
• Man-on-the-Street interviews in our “What’s the Buzz”
  Column

What's the Buzz?
East Wichita News regularly seeks out opinions from Wichitans on local, state, national, and international issues. Examples of questions include:
• What is the first action needed on immigration reform?
• What is your opinion of having a gambling casino in Sedgwick County?
• Do you favor raising taxes to pay for a new downtown arena?

People & Places
People and Places, the second most read portion of East Wichita News (after the lead article), keeps readers informed of area news, business happenings, and charitable organizations. The emphasis of this section of the paper is on who’s doing what.

Spotlight on Business
Each month, East Wichita News highlights one of our contract advertisers as a “thank you” for supporting the newspaper. This feature is written as any normal feature would be, telling the history of the business in question. The owner(s) of the business are interviewed and photographed for this article.

Destinations

The monthly travel article is written by local people who have traveled to various destinations around the world, the U.S. and in Kansas. These are not professional writers, but real vacationers, who see things as a normal traveler would. For example, one of our first travel articles was written by a local physician who has attended the Indianapolis 500 race almost every year of his life. One of his suggestions was to bring your own toilet paper. Professional writers probably wouldn’t have mentioned that one.

Estate and former president of both

as well as industry trends.
